Covid-19: Positivity Rate Near 2.5 Percent In CT, 67 New Deaths Reported

The COVID-19 death toll in Connecticut has hit another dubious milestone as the number of fatalities topped 10,700 since the beginning of the pandemic.

In its latest update on Thursday, March 24, the state Department of Public Health reported 67 new virus-related deaths in the past week, as the number of deaths rose to 10,744 since March 2020.

On Wednesday, March 23, nearly 17,000 COVID-19 tests were administered in Connecticut, resulting in 439 confirmed new cases for a 2.64 percent daily positive infection rate, down a near full point from the previous day.

One more COVID-19 patient was admitted to Connecticut hospitals, bringing the total being treated back up to 100 after hitting double digits for the first time since last summer last week.

As of March 24, 3,023,731 Connecticut residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and 2,706,590 have completed the vaccination process. The state has also administered 1,464,989 booster shots.

A breakdown of which populations have received the most vaccines, by age group on March 24:

  • 65+: >95 percent
  • 55-64: >95 percent;
  • 35-44: 94 percent;
  • 45-54: 91 percent;
  • 25-34: 89 percent;
  • 16-17: 88 percent;
  • 18-24: 85 percent;
  • 12-15: 81 percent;
  • 5-11: 48 percent.

  • Fairfield: 200,891 (2,686 deaths);
  • New Haven: 194,103 (2,788);
  • Hartford: 175,942 (3,113);
  • New London: 54,361 (647);
  • Litchfield: 31,498 (453);
  • Middlesex: 27,813 (478);
  • Windham: 25,535 (297);
  • Tolland: 20,323 (268);
  • Unknown: 2,862 (10).
